More than half of trips made by Europeans are short – very often they last just a couple of days, typically over the weekend. To make things easier, we at TUI Musement have put together a list of the 30 most popular city-destinations in Europe for city breaks. This list is based on how many Google searches users made*, and includes not only the most famous places, but also some surprising gems rich in culture, food and things to do.

3. Prague, Czech Republic
Prague is called the Golden City for a reason. With its medieval castles, cobbled squares and streets, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. The heart of the city is the Charles Bridge, which leads past grand statues into the Old Town, where the famous Astronomical Clock mesmerizes tourists every hour. Also unmissable are Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. Wander the Malá Strana quarter to discover charming alleys and cozy cafés, or explore the lively Wenceslas Square. 5. Barcelona, Spain

Scandinavian inspirations
Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm represent some of the best of Scandinavia: vibrant ports, elegant design, atmospheric old quarters, sea, rivers, fjords. Ideal if you want to combine modern culture with history in a relaxed vibe.
Unexpected discoveries
Belfast shows how a city with a turbulent history can turn into an attractive centre filled with art and social life. Liverpool is iconic in music history, has excellent museums and lively dockside districts.
*Methodology: All European cities with over 150 000 inhabitants were considered. For each city, Google search volumes were added up for four representative terms related to short getaways: «2 days in [city]», «[city] city breaks», «weekend in [city]» and «[city] weekend breaks», both in the city’s original language and in English. For example, for Madrid the search volumes for «2 days in Madrid», «Madrid city breaks», «weekend in Madrid» and «Madrid weekend breaks» were included. Analysis conducted in September 2025 for the period August 2024 – July 2025.
